EC gives relief to Uddhav Thackeray, to hold Maharashtra legislative council elections before May 27


The Election Commission has determined to hold the pending Maharashtra Legislative Council elections before May 27, giving a relief to CM Uddhav Thackeray.

The Election Commission has determined to hold elections for the Maharashtra Legislative Council before May 27 by when CM Uddhav Thackeray has to get elected to the legislature to proceed because the chief minister.

The choice was taken in Friday’s assembly of the Election Commission. This comes a day after Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari wrote to the Election Commission requesting them to hold the elections.

The elections might be held after 21 days and before May 27. The 9 legislative council seats fell vacant on April 24.

The Maharashtra Legislative Council elections have been earlier delayed over the coronavirus disaster. However, uncertainty gripped the Uddhav Thackeray authorities as his days because the CM appeared numbered with no elections in sight.

Now the EC has given him some breather and determined to hold the elections. A notification relating to the ultimate dates might be issued later. However, sources say the fee has determined to hold the elections before May 27.

Earlier on Friday, Uddhav Thackeray called on Governor BS Koshyari on the Raj Bhavan. The Governor had on Thursday written to the Election Commission, requesting them to hold the Legislative Council elections.

Two days in the past, Uddhav Thackeray referred to as PM Modi to voice his issues. The Shiv Sena chief advised PM Modi that makes an attempt are being made to create political instability in Maharashtra.

Uddhav Thackeray should get elected to the legislature by May 28 orelse he’ll stop to be the chief minister of Maharashtra. Currently, the Shiv Sena chief shouldn’t be a member of both Houses in Maharashtra.

He has to turn out to be a member of both House before May 28 or he can have to step down because the chief minister.

In a Cabinet assembly, the Maharashtra coalition authorities of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress had determined to nominate Uddhav Thackeray for the Legislative Council.

A gaggle of leaders met the Governor to convey their choice to nominate Uddhav Thackeray via the governor’s quota.
