ABP E -Shikhar Sammelan: ‘Considering Fines On Factory Owners To Keep A Check On Pollution’, Says Babul Supriyo

The minister is mulling fines to stop manufacturing facility house owners from breaching the environmental norms, particularly those that are repeat offenders in addition to giving incentives for e-waste disposal.

New Delhi: Minister of state for Environment, Forest & Climate Change stated steps are being taken to expedite setting clearances to make sure that extra industries discover a option to India on the ‘e- Shikhar Sammelan’,a conclave organised by ABP News.“India has definitely seen a jump in terms of industrial activities. We are trying best to expedite the environment clearances without any delay. We will announce the measures in the next 15 days,” informs Babul Supriyo.

On being quizzed concerning the air pollution being created by industries, the minister blamed the work ethics of manufacturing facility house owners, “A category of industries will be created. There are situations in which states give consent to operate (CTO) to many factories where immediate environment clearances from State Pollution Control and Central Pollution Board are not required. In those cases, factory owners take it for granted and forget the work ethics.”

In such a scenario the minister stated imposing fines can forestall manufacturing facility house owners from breaching the environmental norms, particularly those that are repeat offenders.

“We are also trying to look at incentives regarding the e-waste disposal”, added Supriyo.

Even manufacturing facility house owners should take the duty to make sure that such e-waste disposals are taken care of.  The duty is two-way and in case there’s a breach then protocol then fines can be imposed to maintain a test, added the minister.

On Covid-19 scenario within the state, the minister identified on the chief minister Mamata Banerjee for suppressing the numbers and saying it has performed the least variety of assessments.

Although on being requested about his proximity with the CM he stated Mamata is his political opponent and never enemy, however there needs to be worry amongst folks within the state about Covid-19, which is absent in the meanwhile.
